What is video surveillance?
Video surveillance systems or commercial video surveillance systems could be defined as any strategically placed camera(s) or video feeds designed to (a) monitor every physical facet of your facility; (b) catch any thief or intruder in the act; or (c) have iron-clad evidence of any crime committed on your business or institution.

Benefits of video surveillance
Double Vision’s video surveillance systems allow for complete site coverage. Even traditionally hard to view areas are easily monitored. The obvious benefit of a video surveillance system is to deter theft or vandalism. But other benefits people don’t always remember include:
- Boosting overall employee safety and morale
- Reducing liability and insurance costs
- Discouraging false accident claims, as everything is seen and recorded on camera
Types of video surveillance
IP network video surveillance: It’s one thing for you to arrive at work in the morning and find a detailed recording of a crime committed at your facility the night before. It’s another to get a live feed to your computer at home as the crime is happening, greatly increasing your chances of catching the intruder in the act.
Our video surveillance systems can be linked to a private network on a fixed IP address that you can access remotely. That way, you can monitor your property without having to physically be on the premises, 24/7/365.
High-definition video surveillance: We use state-of-the-art technology in all our commercial security equipment – and our cameras are no exception. It’s amazing how much a high-definition camera like the ones we offer can enhance your security and, more specifically, your ability to catch trespassers or thieves.
A high-definition video feed can pick up extra details, including license plates and criminal’s facial features or a closer look at actual thefts, which can be performed discreetly and in the blink of an eye.
Even better, high definition cameras capture more area with less cameras; increasing coverage while reducing costs.

Video surveillance quick tips
Here are a few quick pointers on using video surveillance, courtesy of Double Vision Group Inc.
Hidden cameras are always a good idea. Most crimes are committed as impulsive or passionate acts; in those cases, perpetrators are often oblivious to cameras. But sometimes, calculated schemes take place and are intended to work around security cameras. It’s thus always useful to have a few hidden cameras in places no one would expect them to be. This is also handy for gauging your own employees’ loyalty.
The more pixels, the better. There’s a reason why high-definition surveillance cameras are becoming increasingly popular. The higher the image quality, the more you see and the safer you are.
Vandal-proof cameras are a big plus. If a criminal spots your camera, you obviously don’t want him or her to smash it. “Vandal-proof” cameras - such as the models with “dome” lens covers – are rugged and durable, usually tough to destroy.
IP Network Video Surveillance
Network based Video Surveillance has become the standard in the CCTV industry and is replacing traditional DVR based analog systems. Network Video Surveillance Technology can capture higher resolutions, easily be expanded for future use and will seamlessly integrate with other technology. This technology will reduce hardware and installations costs as well as reduce on-going operation and maintenance costs.
High Definition Video Surveillance
One of the biggest advancements in the security industry is the introduction of High Definition Video Surveillance. Traditional DVR based systems with analog cameras have reached their limits and will only record 640x480 resolution (or 0.3 megapixels). High definition video starts at 1.3 megapixel (or 1280x1024) and can reach over 5 megapixels (or 2560x1920).
With high definition video, customers can significantly reduce up-front costs associated with deploying a video surveillance system, can significantly reduce ongoing operation and maintenance costs & eliminate liability concerns.
