At places of business, most of the thefts and vandalism happens at night when no one is around. This makes the chances of the vandals getting caught much smaller. However, if you decide to purchase a security camera that has night vision capabilities, then you will get a clear picture even when it is dark outside. These types of cameras will provide you with surveillance throughout the day and at night, so you will be able to see anything that happens at your place of business at any time.

Couldn't agree more! All of these are such a tremendous stress reliever when dealing with several properties. Property management software makes it so much easier to manage multiple properties and maintain an open line of communication with residents and staff with little to no effort. Thanks for the great post!

Mike, thanks for the comment. It would be very expensive to hire a security guard. The best option, other than alarm system, is to get a virtual security guard. You can read more about it on our website here:

Basically, we watch your premises via security cameras. It's 50% less than security guards but much more effective.

Why not hire a security guard to sit there and when in doubt call the police?

Anupam, thanks for the comment. Criminals are getting smarter and they also know how most security systems work. We have to continue to get more creative with our solutions to help deter and catch thieves.

In essence I agree on the first part that alarm systems on their own are not good enough for the reasons you've mentioned. I also think that conventional alarm systems not only deter an "average" criminal but may only help an "average" customer feel secure.

Criminals are getting smarter by the day whether it is electronic hacking or physical hacking & some of these hacks can happen literally in in a few seconds, what's the point of getting an alarm system that only gives an illusion of security then?

A security system should be designed from the get go that provides real security, and real security cannot depend on point solutions whether it is an alarm system, access control or a camera system. A solution should be able to provide a combination detection, deterrence and evidence and I think your #4 on integration is a valid one so long it can do this qualitatively.
